Shiny Pokémon Events Guide
Periodically, The Pokémon Company releases special event distributions for special Pokémon. Sometimes these are to designate a special event, sometimes these celebrate a movie, and sometimes these simply offer an incentive for playesr to buy products. Sometimes these events go well, sometimes they don't. Sometimes these events are global, sometimes these events are limited to special regions. Sometimes these are normal Pokémon with a special attribute, sometimes they are completely normal.
Importantly for us, sometimes these events distribute Shiny Pokémon, and sometimes these events don't. But we only care about the shiny Pokémon at this particular point in time.
Over seventy Pokémon have received Shiny event distributions across the globe. Many websites, such as Serebii, do a great job of documenting every event and organizing them by when they were released, under which game, or which Pokémon. However, I could not find any resources that could list only every Shiny event.
That being said, let's get to the Shiny Pokémon.
Last Updated: 06 October 2025
Before we can get a proper list of Shiny Event Pokémon, we need to define what
- Something needs to be distributed. This technically includes items as well, but for our purposes, our list will only include Pokémon that were distributed. If there's no Pokémon distributed, then that Pokémon can't be shiny.
- An external trigger outside of the game needs to take place. Players can connect to the Internet to trigger an event distribution, but the player cannot only take part in an in-game sequence to trigger the event, such as shiny Gift Pokémon.
- Events have to be officially sanctioned by affiliated parties at some point. Methods used to access an old event are fair game here, as this list serves to compile a list of event distributions. However, any recreations, modifications, or outright custom events do not qualify (at that point, anyone could create an event and add it to the list).
- Shiny status must be guaranteed. Any event distributions that have a chance of being shiny do not apply to this list (this only impacts a single Pokémon, Arceus during the Archjinni of the Rings Hoopa movie promotion).
- Events with boosted shiny odds, such as spotlight raid events in Sword and Shield or outbreak events in Scarlet and Violet do not count. However, events that only trigger shiny encounters, do count.
That being said, now we need to discuss which Pokémon are eligible for this list. While this list strives to show which Pokémon were distributed thanks to events, many Pokémon on this list could further evolve, either at the time of the event or later in the future. Further, do temporary forms, such as Mega Evolution and Gigantamax Pokémon, get an additional entry in this list?
In my personal opinion, I only count Pokémon forms that could dedicate a spot in a box in a collection. Pokémon can evolve and fill a new role in a collection, but I personally have trouble justifying Mega Evolutions and Gigantamax Forms since those are changes that happen during battle and reset when conditions are filled. But I can understand arguments for both of those questions. As such, both evolutions and special forms will be included in this list when possible, but as a part of their own sections separate from the strictly "event" shiny Pokémon.
For future proofing reasons, however, I will not count any Pokémon forms that are "undone" went moved out of a game into Pokémon HOME or similar. This includes any costumed Pokémon in Pokémon GO, any Shadowed forms, or anything along those lines. To my knowledge, that does not apply as of writing, but I would not be surprised if that eventually became a factor later.
If you would like to skip ahead, feel free to jump ahead to one of these sections. Or, you can use your browser's Search tool to search for a given Pokémon's full name or a National Dex Number.

Fun Facts
- As of Scarlet & Violet, a total of 73 Pokémon received a shiny event distribution out of 1025, or about 7.12% of the overall National Dex (not counting gendered and special forms separately).
- Of the Pokémon with shiny events and gendered forms, four of those Pokémon had a generation with only one gendered distribution.
- Magikarp and Eevee both had a later generation that released both gendered forms.
- Milotic and Mamoswine both never received a female distribution. Both also are final evolutions in their evolution line, meaning no other Pokémon were affected if you include evolution paths in the list of available Shiny Pokémon.
- Regarding special Pokémon...
- Restricted Legendary Pokémon had a total of 19 Pokémon with shiny distributions(Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Solgaleo, Lunala, Necrozma, Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternatus, Koraidon, & Miraidon). That's about 70.37% of the current Legendary roster.
- Sub-Legendary Pokémon, likewise, had a total of 15 Pokémon with shiny distributions (Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, Galarian Moltres, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Silvally, Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, Tapu Fini, Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu, & Chi-Yu). That's roughly 34.09% of the current Sub-Legendary roster.
- Mythical Pokémon had a total of 5 Pokémon with shiny distributions (Celebi, Jirachi, Genesect, Diancie, & Zeraora). That's roughly 21.74% of the current Mythical roster.
- Again, this does not count event distributions that had a chance of a shiny Pokémon. That would add an additional one Pokémon, Arceus (three if you include Meltan and Melmetal, who are locked behind an event that increase spawn rates rather than directly distribute a Pokémon).
- Notably, a number of these Pokémon do not have shiny event distributions directly, but do have distributions locked behind challenges in Pokémon HOME: Shiny Manaphy, Keldeo, Meloetta, & Meltan).
- The only Ultra Beast that received a shiny distribution was Poipole. For consistency, that's roughly 9.1% of the current roster (18.18% if you include Poipole's evolution, Naganadel). This does not include Necrozma, who's officially a Restricted Legendary Pokémon.
- No Paradox Pokémon (not counting Pokémon already counted in Restricted Legendary Pokémon) have received a shiny event distribution.

Serebii.net — Shiny Pokémon
Serebii has a good, brief rundown of the basic shiny hunting methods. They also have a list of Shiny Pokémon currently available as in-game gifts, five of which did not receive shiny event distributions. Further, see...Serebii.net — Pokémon HOME — Gift Pokémon
Serebii also has a list of gift Pokémon distributed through Pokémon HOME, which includes those aforementioned Pokémon locked behind Pokédex challenges. Do note that they include the Shiny Zeraora distribution in this list as well (it was a gift distributed in Pokémon HOME, after all).
